Martyn's Law
In 2025 the government passed 'The Terrorism Protection of Premises' bill, also known as Martyn's Law. This legislation aims to enhance public protection and was developed following the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017. The legislation will mean that any public premises that have the capacity to hold 200+ persons, will require a prepared planned response to a terrorist attack and ensure staff are trained to be able to respond appropriately. There are two tiers - 'Standard tier' and 'Enhanced tier'. 'Standard tier' is intended for venues and events with a capacity of 200+ individuals. 'Enhanced tier' is intended for venues and events with a capacity of 800+ individuals. The legislation will become enforcable by spring 2027.
